One fortunate resident of Southern California has become the state’s latest millionaire after the Mega Millions numbers were drawn on Friday night.

The winning numbers were 6, 23, 41, 59, 63, with the Mega Ball being 25 and the Megaplier set at 2X.

While no ticket matched all six numbers to claim the $740 million jackpot, a ticket from Southern California matched five of the numbers and will earn $2,233,779.

The winning ticket was purchased at an ARCO ampm gas station located at 27900 Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City, Riverside County.

The jackpot has been growing since a $552 million prize was claimed in Illinois in early June. At $740 million, this jackpot is the seventh-largest in Mega Millions history.

The jackpot for the next drawing on Tuesday night, September 10, is expected to rise to an estimated $800 million.

Lottery officials reported that 249,974 other tickets won prizes ranging from $2 to $10,931 in Friday’s drawing.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are approximately 1 in 302.6 million.

According to USA Mega, which tracks Mega Millions statistics, the most frequently drawn numbers are 10, 3, 17, 14, and 46. The most common Mega Ball number is 11.

Mega Millions is available in 45 states and the District of Columbia, with tickets costing $2 each and nine ways to win a prize. Drawings occur every Tuesday and Friday at 8 p.m.
